Song of Songs of the Urfeld Circle

(Thoughts after the meeting in Cavalletti, January, 2002)

If, after all, everything is just a matter of love (agapi),

And love is a complicated, sensitive and intricate story

That embodies passion, storm, edges and conflicts,

Unnumbered clashes, sweeter than honey reconciliation

As well as the risk of a possible sickness (“for I am love-sick…).

Well, is there love in the Urfeld Circle?

In a naïve, years old belief,

That is based on an accumulating trust

I strongly declare,

That love does exist here!!!

But,

In love as in love:

Who awoke love, and who knocked on whose door?

Who put his hand by the hole of the door, and who ran to open it?

Whose hands dropped with myrrh and whose fingers were upon the handles of the bar?

Who really adjures whom, by the gazelles and the hinds of fields?

Who drew whom – and ran,  and who ran white and ruddy?

Who went down into his garden and who to a bed of spices?

Who is leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills?

And has the vine budded already, and are the pomegranates in flower?

Who feeds among the lilies, and whom hath the sun tanned?

Who is a rose of Sharon, and who is like an apple-tree among the trees of the wood?

Who is the gazelle and who is a fast young hart?

And has the winter passed, and the rain is over and gone?

Who stayed whom with dainties, and who was refreshed with apples?

Whose left hand is under our head, and whose right hand embraces us?

Who is like a shut garden and who is still a fountain sealed?

And who is the one that companions hearken for his voice?

Who standeth behind our wall, and looketh in through the windows?

Who peereth through the lattice?

Who are the little foxes that spoil the vineyards?

And whom were the watchmen that go about the city looking for?

Oh, how fair and how pleasant art thou, O love!

Return, return, that we may look upon thee in our Circle.

As many waters cannot quench love,

And neither can the floods of Rome drown it.

But in the Urfeld Circle, as in the Urfeld Circle,

Everything stays like an open book. The hand writes

And the love dialogue continues:

Who really loves, and whom does the truth love?

Who loves God and whom does God love?

Who is His messenger upon earth, and who is his Messiah up in heaven?

And Tikkun Olam, where and how does it occur?

Who lives in Celestial Jerusalem with the angels of God?

And who lives here in the everyday Jerusalem, with its neighbors?

Questions, questions, questions…

And uncountable answers!

And only the days will tell…
