Within the horror of my Jasenovac
Yair Palgi, 30/7/08
Suddenly I dreamt of my death
And the death of my daughter
And perhaps also the death of my father
Well planned and expected like a nightly command
Seemingly it was a calm dream
With no feelings of fear or horror
Just on the day of my father’s 97th birthday
Who was murdered there – in the awful monstrosity
I was leading my little daughter
Unto her deathbed, my hand in her hand
Until she slowly dissolved within my hand
So as to save her from facing the horror
I saw the Ustaše militants
Sitting in front of me, around a table
Eating with a calm smile until satiated
This is a daily occurrence, a routine…
I slowly woke up gazing
Overwhelmed and paralyzed from the vision
In which I took part in hallucination
Is death part of the enforceable agreement within me as well?
